And found the following problems with them.
I bought the male [ on the right ] and because it has no flats on it ,
it is impossible to get it level when bolting it to a plate.
If you bolt them to the front end you are trying to support the whole of
the weight of the front end whilst bolting them both to the plate.
The female on the left may be easier as it has flats at the end ,
however because it can pivot from side to side as well as rotating it is
hard to get them both parallel to each other.
The small brass piece on the outside is a grease port , however I have
found no way of getting grease into them and have had to use a small
paint brush to get motor oil into them from the outside otherwise they
become stiff and creak.
The result of this is that dirt is getting into them and they are
grinding themselves to pieces.
However they have now done 2600 miles [ 4600 km ] so maybe that is not bad.
I would rather have a pivot made of normal bike parts so it can be fixed
whilst out on the road , so am looking at a cartridge BB for my next
build or conversion of my current trike.
As commented in the other thread head tubes can be a bit big and clumsy
to implement , however they can also be fixed out on the road , unless
you carry a set of spare rod end bearings you are stuffed should they fail.
other ideas ? views ? experience's ? with Python pivots ?
