Right now there''s nothing more to show than two 406 wheels. One has three
gears and the other has none. Somehow these two wheels will be part of a
minimalistic python recumbent in the near future.
See, I need a bike for the daily commute to work. ...which is just a few
kilometers from one end of a tiny city to the other. The inspiration comes
from two bikes, mainly. Olaf's Monty gave me the idea to skip the handlebar
and use pedal brakes. Three gears will probably be enough for me. Marc's
python by Dirk is simply admired for the beauty of it. If my bike ever
looks half as good I'll be happy.
For my birthday I suggested friends and family to give me the resources to
get a bike for myself. The amount of funding was simply overwhelming so I
contacted the local bicycle garage to find out if they could build the bike
for me. They've built recumbents before. Sadly they don't have a good
welder at this time, so there's no other option than to stubbornly continue
looking for someone else that can help. There has to be success hiding
under some rock out there. Bike builders are few and far apart here in the
south of the Swedish Lapland, you know. The goal is still to get the bike
built before summer.
Right now the idea is to butcher a budget 20 inch city folder and
"frankenstein" something out of the parts. That should give me an adult
gearing ratio. The front fork could become the rear wheel mount, including
brakes The pedals and rear geometry becomes the drive wheel assembly. Then
what? Rod end bearings for the pivot? A hammock-type seat?
Or should I go for something completely different? Any suggestion is
appreciated. ...and probably needed...
