Hi, Steve,

Below is information about the Commission on Youth Meeting.  I believe I erred
in giving the wrong date--the correct date is Wednesday, May 24.  I'll forward
a separate email with the flyer about the May 4 "Paper Tigers" event at the
McCoart Building.

The first Virginia Commission on Youth meeting for the 2017 study year will
take place on Wednesday, May 24 at 9:00 a.m. in House Room 3 of the Capitol.

At this meeting, the Virginia Commission on Youth in partnership with the L.
Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth
University will host a Family Impact Seminar focused on the adverse effects of
childhood trauma.

Dr. Allison Jackson with Magellan Healthcare of Virginia will provide an
overview on the impact of childhood traumatic experiences. Dr. Michel Aboutanos
with the Medical College of Virginia will provide a medical perspective
regarding trauma.  Dr. Haley Cleary and Dr. Christina Mancini with Virginia
Commonwealth University will address academic research about trauma’s impact
upon adolescent behavior.  Virginia’s efforts to strengthen early intervention
and prevention of trauma will also be highlighted.

Following the Seminar, a screening of Resilience will take place.  This is a
film which chronicles the birth of a new movement among pediatricians,
therapists, educators and communities, who are using cutting-edge brain science
to disrupt cycles of violence, addiction and disease.  The film portrays a
dynamic group of individuals who are proving that cycles of disease and
adversity can be broken.

A draft summary of the agenda for the day includes:
8:30 - 9:00 a.m.
Registration - Coffee and pastries will be provided

9:00 - 9:15 a.m.
Commission on Youth Meeting - Approval of the 2017 Study Plans

9:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.
Family Impact Seminar of the Adverse Effects of Childhood Trauma

12:45 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Break for Lunch (Lunch will not be provided)

1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Screening of Resilience

The Commission on Youth meeting and the Seminar is open to the public at no
