I used to use Lee polyester filters in Calumet frames, both in front and behind the lens. Since they are so thin, they cause a minimum focus shift when used behind the lens, and this method has the advantage of keeping stray light off of the filter. On the down side, I often photograph around water, and I had problems with water droplets getting on and marring the filters. These filters don't clean well. Clearly this issue won't be a problem for some people. =============================================================================================================
