I'm not sure I follow.  A low d-max but high contrast?  

In talking to Freestyle re: Arista II, the phone person says they recommend 1:7 
Dektol for this purpose.

I have used Arista II, but to get continuous tone I have cut my dektol to 1:15 
and used a water pre-soak for a couple minutes.  

The contrast seems to be quite high and the density fairly low.
