You know what would be nice... if they were all lined up on a shelf and I could hold and try them out. Guess that's not gonna happen. I will check, however, with Charlotte Camera and see what they've got in that's used. When I was there once, they had a nice-looking FM2 but I wasn't in the market yet.

I live a distance from anywhere! I think it will be worth the hour and a half drive, though, if I can find a couple cameras in the same town. Thank you all!

Merry Christmas

Janet

Do you happen to know how the F3 compares to the FG in size? I'd found a site once that gave all kinds of info on older Nikons. I'm gonna look
through for it again.

An F3 is a fair amount larger than an FG even before you mount an MD4 on
it; the MD4 addition causes it to be quite a bit larger. In some ways
this is nice, because an important part of the size difference is the
larger finder (particularly on an HP), but that's not all of it. I'm
rather fond of my F3, although I have some issues with it still (the
viewfinder illumination is notoriously bad and I just don't like LCDs
for manual metering).

Regarding replacing an FG, I concur with the others, who suggest you
investigate the FM series or FE series. If memory serves, the FM2 uses LED metering, the FE uses an LCD (not sure about this) and the FM3a uses
match-needle metering.
