Injecting CO2 into water will significantly lower its ph.
This is used in marine 'reef' aquariums to force calcium carbonate to
dissolve out of crushed coral and shell and go back into solution where
aquarium inhabitants will take up the CaCO3 and use it to manufacture shell
or skeleton material.
