hello allan, just a thought
when the unit is on try holding the eject button in for a few seconds and see if you can put a disc in them.

cheers

Hello John, and others who have replyed to my message.

Cince I last wrote, something wheerd has happend. i've tryed restarting the unit some more, just to see if anything happend at some point.
The last time I restarted, I used the on/off-keey as usual, and the litttle musical plung-sound came on, but nothing else happend.
Then my phone rang, and I left the ptr1 turned on whilst on the phone. suddenlly, (about 2 minutes after I started the unit), it came to life again, with the welcome music, speach output and other features functioning and so on. I then tryed to insert a disc, but unfortunatlly I was not able 2! It feels like something is blocking the mecanissm. I then turned the unit off again, and re-started once more. And just as the last time, it took 2 minutes before it was reddy to be used, and I still could not insert a disc.

well, this is how things are at this point.

Kind regards from allan

Hi me boy. Actually, on the site, there is a more current update than
the one you have. I don't know why the recorders were not shipped with
the most current, however they didn't seem to be. If you have a disc
with the 2.1 on it, try sticking it into the machine and see what it
does, if anything. If you would like, perhaps I can get you an actual
disc containing the 2.1 as I don't believe they have the 2.17 on a disc.
They certainly should. Also, if you have a memory card or the optional
drive, do either of these work without a disc? At least, if you wire
the thing up to a computer, it may repair whatever errors there may be
existing in the unit. As mentioned, they are quirky, which is to say,
I'm not sure the software is consistent itself. The best to you, John
