No, it doesn't have phantom power. -----Original Message----- From: ptr1-users-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ptr1-users-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Life My Way Sent: 21 October 2010 14:01 To: ptr1-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: RE: Recording Volume and Power Off ok, is the microphone one that needs phantom power? if this is the case then the mic might not work. I get very loud volume from my unit when using an external microphone. also if you have a 1/8 to 1/8 chord you can do another test but that only would let you use the unit as a computer microphone GOL.LOL ----- Original Message ----- From: "E Lists" <e.lists@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ptr1-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, October 20, 2010 10:01 PM Subject: RE: RE: Recording Volume and Power Off Thanks Peter. Yes, I had done that already. The output is not great on the PT Pocket machine, particularly when using an external microphone. It's not an option that I will be able to use at all because the output is incredibly low. The output wasn't dissimilar on the demo machine at the RNIB and they agreed that it wasn't great either. I tried my microphone in both machines with similar results and they told me that apparently the machine doesn't like certain microphones. I've never had a problem with my microphone before on any other machine and I've had it for many years. -----Original Message----- From: ptr1-users-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ptr1-users-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Peter Bosher Sent: 20 October 2010 14:20 To: ptr1-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: RE: Recording Volume and Power Off Hi, Forgive me if this is obvious, but I am surprised and puzzzled by your problem, so just thought I'd check one thing: you do realise that when you record from an external mic, you need to change one of the recording options, so press menu, right-arrow to Recording settings. press enter, then right-arrow to "Select external audio input jack", press enter, then change between Microphone and line input mode. This wasn't needed on the PTR1, so just thought I'd make sure you know. If that isn't the solution, then I'm pretty sure you do have a faulty unit, as the input gain for external mics is definitely adequate, even for low-level mics, and it is probably not firmware related. Please do let us know the outcome.
