Hi Brian,

I think even for the additional time jump options of 10 minutes and 30
seconds, it is worth upgrading.

Hi Brian,

See below the text of the press release - I hope this is OK though I guess
it should be as it is all public now:

Hope it helps but in short, yes, I think there are a few good little extras
here.

Jamie

*****Press release begins:

For Immediate Release

PLEXTALK ANNOUNCES NEW FEATURES FOR THE PLEXTALK POCKET

Currently the PLEXTALK Pocket can read DAISY 2.02-, DAISY 3.0 -books, most
audio formats and text documents. The PTP1_BL_high.jpgPocket has now been
expanded to be used as a PODCAST receiver and WEB RADIO player.

Brussels. - March 17th 2011-PLEXTALK, the assistive technology business unit
of its parent company SHINANO KENSHI is launching version 5.00 of the
firmware with unique and attractive features.

The build-in wireless connection already offers the shared Network folder
feature and has now been expanded to receive PODCASTS and WEB RADIO.

Overview of the new functions in Version 5.00 for PLEXTALK Pocket:

1. Wireless network configuration. When the wireless access point is
configured in the Pocket, the wireless connection will subsequently be made
automatically.

Also, with the network function the user can browse to a free access point
and connect immediately.

2. PLEXTALK provides a free of charge software, Book Transfer software
that allows the user to organize the content of the SD-card in the Pocket.

The Book Transfer software can automatically detect the Pocket connection.
With an easy interface, you can select DAISY, Audio books, Music, Podcast,
Web Radio etc. from a computer system and transfer them onto the Pocket.

3. This firmware version supports more formats: Microsoft Word
documents (.doc and .docx) which are read by the internal Speech
synthesizer.

Support for PDTB2 protected DAISY content is also included.

4. Category browsing. The user can now select the title from a category
more easily. The Pocket allows choosing from DAISY, Music, Audio books,
Text, Podcasts, Web Radio and recordings. It is also possible for the user
to navigate by folder.

5. Navigation in a title. As well as the existing navigation levels,
the user can also navigate through a DAISY or Audio book in jumps of 10
minutes or 30 seconds.

6. The new firmware will be available in English, German, Swedish,
French and Dutch from March 17th. Other languages will be produced in a
later stage.

Hi Gary,

Try the following website:

www.plextalk.com/in/download.html

There's something a bit odd about the page but there are links for the
transfer software and most manuals. I say a bit odd because the use of
headings has gone all wrong and initially I didn't realise that so much
stuff was actually still on the page. I think there are only something like
4 headings but then a lot of other stuff is listed below the firmware
section.

If you search for "plextalk transfer for pocket" you should find it OK.

Regarding the user guide, don't forget that you can read the user guide
direct from the Plextalk Pocket by holding down the Number 0 key. When you
want to go back to normal mode, just press and hold the Number 0 key again.

Hope this helps.

Jamie

Where is the latest documentation in US English for the firmware. I can't
find it. transfer software is mentioned in the overview, but I am not sure
what or where the software can be found. the latest user guide is not
available either, so I can't learn to use the web radio or podcast
features.

Go to the plextalk web site

http://www.plextalk.com

click on download.

then select your language for your firmware and download it.

unzip it and copy the verup folder to your sd card.

and plug your unit in to the ac power.

now turn on your plextalk pocket and it should say latest update found.

let it update the waiting sound will play: then when it is finished it will
reboot. the firmware will then be installed.

As to the firmware all you really need is the latest version to install.

How do you update to the latest firmware, and do you have to install each
new firmware or just the latest?

Sharon
