Sharon,

PCM will result in the creation of '.WAV' files whereas the MP3 option will
give you MP3 files as your audio files. DAISY recordings are able to work
with either of these formats. The main difference is quality of the audio
and the amount of disc storage - higher quality uses more disc space.

With either the WAV files or the MP3 files, you can lift the files out of
the DAISY recording to use/edit on any other standard audio editing
software.

Hope this helps.

Jamie

What is pcm? There are two recording choices that have this, and four mp3
choices. Is pcm another file format? A bit confused, and thanks for your
clear explanations; they help!

I decided to go ahead and get a Plextalk Pocket. What is the difference
between mp3 and daisy? I thought the ptr1 recorded in both. I'm a bit
confused between the two. Sharon

Hey Sharon: Put the "noise" level to low. I contend that the actual
MP3 recordings are really Windows files which is to say, that, your
player will need to be capable of playing Windows files as well as MP3.
Also, put your recording setting to "custom". Turn your incrament
setting to "off" or "none. When you stop recording, it will leave a
track mark. If that one is set to anything else, it will automatically
put a section in almost any time there is a "pause". They did a few
rather strange things with the PTR1 units. I use one myself. Get
regular CDR for MP# recording. You can't do MP3 recording on a "music"
CD. Some kind of "copyright" garbage. Hoe these things will help. If,
at some point, you might want to actually talk, contact me. John
