Perhaps I'm not quite as mad as I thought I was!! (Smile) It was the jump of topic that had thrown me and hence my rather dottery replies! I can only guess that the reason that your software says "data ISO CD" is because it is creating a data CD that conforms to the ISO standards. I think that ISO stands for something like "International Standards Organisation" so it might be as simple as that but I can't give you a definitive answer. Glad that I've finally found out that I'm not quite as mad as it might have appeared!! It isn't making sense to me as to why my burning software talks about "writing the data iso cd" when all I've done is to have used Goldwave to create a bunch of MP3 files to burn to disc. When I use the Windows burning software, the files just get burnt to disc, and there is no mention of any iso files, but when I use my preferred burning software [Express Burn], placing the folder of MP3 tracks in the burn list, then click on burn, I get that message about writing the data iso cd. Although the end result in both cases seems to be the same, in that whether the discs has been burnt using the Windows software or Express Burn, they play in all players, including my PTR1, I still would like to understand why Express Burn mentions writing data iso, instead of just burning the mp3 tracks as normal. Sorry if I'm right off topic now for this list, but it just started when listers were mentioning the iso file for the upgrade, and I thought I'd jump in to try and understand what was going on for me with my burning experience. - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamie Cuthbertson" <jamie.cuthbertson@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ptr1-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, May 13, 2007 1:29 PM Subject: RE: PTN1 and PTR2 upgrade Andy, You know, I think that I must be really thick (well I know that already, smile) because I'm not sure if you are still talking about the use of the ISO image file for creating the upgrade CD for the PTR2 or if you are talking about burning MP3 files to a CD as something unrelated to the upgrade process? Creating a CD of MP3 files is not the same as using an ISO image file to create a finished disc. Most burning softwares will do this in a different way from the standard burning process. It's not the same as simply burning the ISO image file onto the CD, the process actually uses the ISO image file to lay down the structure of the whole of the finished CD. An ISO image file is like a picture of the whole disc structure in a single file. Hope this helps. My query is why with this particular software [Express burn] when the burn begins, does it tell me it is writing "the data iso cd?" What is 'iso' and because it mentions it, does it mean the disc burning is different to when in the past I have used Easy CD Creater to burn discs? Am I being clear? <smile>Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamie Cuthbertson" <jamie.cuthbertson@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ptr1-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2007 3:50 PM Subject: RE: PTN1 and PTR2 upgrade Andy, Yes, I believe that MP3 files are data files but I also think that .WAV files are as well. On a Music CD - and I mean one that has been formatted as a Music CD rather than a data CD which happens to have .WAV files on it, I think that the files become .CDA files even if they started life as .WAV files. Happy to be told I'm wrong on this one as well! (Smile) I'm not sure if I'm picking you up correctly or not but I guess that the burning software sees that the contents of this particular CD (within the ISO image file) contains data files whereas, if you created an ISO image file of a Music CD, it might then say "Music ISO" rather than "Data ISO"? Just a guess. After the disk has burned, the PTR1 sees it as an mp3 cd, which is correct, so I just wonder why the burning software announces "writing data iso CD." - Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamie Cuthbertson" <jamie.cuthbertson@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <ptr1-users@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2007 9:56 PM Subject: RE: PTN1 and PTR2 upgrade Andy, Not sure about Data ISO file but, in general, my understanding is that an ISO file is an image of the whole contents of a CD, regardless of the types of files included in the image. A data CD, however, is specifically a CD that contains files structured in a standard file storage style as against other formats like music CD's etc. Don't know if this answers your question or not.
