Per,

Thanks for the answer.

I used to run version 1 of pskmail on another computer (also linux mint), but
that machine is gone (donated to a good goal).

On the current laptop I have only tried to run versions 2 of pskmail. But maybe
the problem of UI not appearing in 2.1 is also because of an 2.0.30 version
configuration.xml in ~/.pskmail ? The 2.0.30 UI is appearing fine and is
working. Only the tranceiver is not toggled into transmit.

I do presume however that jpskmail does not like the installled rxtx version
(2.2-pre2), which is newer than the required 2.1.7, but apparently not better.
I do not see a way to go back to rxtx 2.1.7 without disturbing the system
configuration too much.

Or there could be a problem with pskmail or something under it (rxtx probably,
isn't that a library for communicating with serial ports ?) not finding
/dev/ttyUSB0, but I have no idea yet on how to debug this ... It surely is the
interface the modem is connected to, I see it appear in /var/log/messages when
I plug in the modem.
