Rein,

I hit send too fast on the last email.

His password was correct. His account is another one that needs the full email address for the USER. Once I said USER fieldstonefarms@xxxxxxx and PASS his_password, I got an OK.

Hi Fred,

I have been looking into the source of the POP3Client module, and it looks like the pop server closes the socket. This is normally an autentication problem (USER/PASS not recognized).
Does this combination work with a normal mail client (e.g. evolution)?

You can do a check with:
telnet pophost 110
(+OK)
USER user
(+OK)
PASS his_password
(+OK, Authenticated)
LIST
(l xxxx
2 xxx etc., nr + length...)
QUIT

If that does not work, check the userid and password again.

If you still have problems I will need the account password to test it (send to my local account (rein at couperus.com), not to the list :).

But from here it looks like the pop server does work OK with port 110.

Rein,

We first tried it with the PSKlive cd with 0.2.9 client on his laptop. We uploaded his data from the client but each time we would log on, it would ask him to update his record. I then tried it from my laptop with 0.3.0 client but I did not update his record from my client. His data looked good in the user data base but I did erase his entry at the server and re-entered his data at the server. Then, when I log on from my 0.3.0 client, I still get the same error.

I just now logged on as W4TX from my 0.3.0 client, updated the record from the client, and got the message that the record for W4TX has been updated. Then I logged off and back on and it said 'Hi W4TX, pse update your record.

His record is as follows, except for his password:

1: Pop host = mail.e1w.com
2: Pop user = fieldstonefarms
3: Pop password = his_password
4: SMTP server = smtp_host
5: From address = fieldstonefarms@xxxxxxx
6: Mail file = .mailuser
7: APRS password = none
9: Delete callsign
0: Exit

Fred, what version of the client?
There is no limitation on the USER. But the error message shows the data has not been initialized properly. Have you checked the record in the user data base?
I will look into it if you tell me what version you use.

Betreff: [pskmail] problem with USER= in retrieving mail
Hello Rein,

I have been trying to set up W4TX to use PSKmail. The problem is that he always gets the message 'No mail', even when there is mail.

When he is connected and sends ~QTC 1+, the server shows:

~QTC 1+
Req. QTC from 1
mail.e1w.com|
USER=fieldstonefarms
Use of unitialized value in pattern match (m//) at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/Mail/POP3Client.pm line 1075, <GEN9> line 2.
fieldstonefarms, his_password|
Count=-1

If I remember correctly, this is the same error I was receiving a few months ago when I was trying to use an email account that required the whole email address (fred@xxxxxxxxxxx) for the USER. I know you said you were removing @domain.xxx since no one in their right mind would do it that way ;>). Is there also a length limit on USER that may be a problem here? His USER is 15 characters long.

Thanks es 73,
Fred
