I have spent a little time working with the PC I am setting up for PSK mail. The LIVE CD loaded fine, and it is now a 100% Linux machine. It does not seem to see the sound card at all. It is a Soundblaster AWE64, model 4500. When I go into the Mandrive Control Center and look at Hardware, there is no indication it is there at all. Do I have a really dead soundcard, or is there something I need to do to help Linux "see" it??
Bill, Definitely try ALSA if it's available on the live CD. You may want to try using the lspci utility to see if the card is dead or not -- that'll tell you whether or not it's identified itself to the PCI subsystem. lspci -vvv will give the most information. You should see an entry for "Audio device" or "Multimedia controller" or something of that nature in its output. best, -chris N2YYZ
