Franco,

there must be something else, the effects you see are not happening here...
I can switch xastir on and off and I get no error... this is on UBUNTU as well 
as on puppy Linux.
The only thing I can think of is that xastir tries to open the RS232 port which 
fldigi uses for PTT out.

Pse try the following:
Start xastir and remove all interface devices (Interface tab) with the 
exception of the Internet 
Server device pointing to localhost:8063.

Then try again...
