Hi Per, congrats for the nice server CD. I have tested it thoroughly and found the following issues until now: * The computer starts with a sound fanfare, which is transmitted if you use VOX on the trx (like I do). * The computer starts with NumLock on, which is difficult for entering passwords :) * On my Compaq Armada 700 the soundcard driver (maestro) does not work properly. The frequency is 1% too high compared to the ASUS and both on send and receive there are wrong characters inserted into the stream periodically. Looks like the soundcard is not recognized properly? * Could not find sndconfig. * gMFSK works well on my ASUS and on my son's Taiwanese no-name. Both have 512 MB, could that be an issue? * SSL Pop does not work, normal POP works well. This must be an issue of the Mail::POP3Client install. This install is not easy, I described it on the Wiki. Testing is a nightmare, as with every OO module there is only a message "does not work properly (count = -1)". I will attach a small testing program for gmail (it counts the mail and prints the headers). * I could not find the ntpdate command * I could not find a vncserver or similar * My USB stick is mounted as /mnt/removable, which is o.k. I am quite happy with this CD; actually I have it running on thinkcow's laptop and it is talking through mike and speaker to my client system. Cool feature to demonstrate the system!! I think it would be a good idea to make the server distro as thin as possible, to reduce download time, use only stuff to test and debug the server (which is a lot already :) It should include Firefox and wget... Of course we can also add it to the client distro... It is not necessary to download the complete distro if the basic OS does not change, unless there are new libraries... Perl allows to just copy the new files over the old ones. I would add a script on the desktop which asks for the time, the ip number, the router and the dns entity. You have to change them anyway, unless you want to use the defaults on the CD (which e.g. I cannot). There may also be a need to auto-start the server on reboot, but that requires a permanent storage. There should also be a permanent store for the user data base (maybe somewhere in the cloud?), and the schedules and pskmailrc.pl. Summing it up, I would be interested to run this on the PI4TUE server :) 73, Rein PA0R
