Hi,

No server I know of requires any intermar address.
Franz is correct in that servers that use gmail will have the from
address rewritten by gmail. That is why the reply-to address is added to
the email and that makes private addresses work also through gmail (if
the receiver wants to reply then the correct address will be used).

One issue he can run into is if he sends an email without uploading his
email data to the server. If the server does not know the from-address
then that field will be empty when it reaches the smtp server. I use my
own postfix smtp server and messages without a from address are normally
treated as spam and rejected.

If I would use gmail then the from field will be rewritten to the logged
on users address. So, the message that lacks a from field automatically
gets a from-field (but an incorrect one) and the reply-to field is only
optional so the message will get sent.

I guess that is the issue here, pse have him try again but make sure he
uploads some email data (at least an email address) before.

We could also discuss wether we should send the from field with every
message, it would help avoid situations like these. But, for pskaprs
email we do need that users email address. We could also have the server
reject messages when the server has no data about the user.
