I have tested the Fldigi/PSK125/pskmail combination during last weekend. The
following conclusions can be drawn:

* I like the "look and feel" of Fldigi better than gMFSK

* Some controls on Fldigi, like the audio level controls on the main window,
are very handy.

* In Fldigi I can control the "sweet spot" of the transceiver. My FT897D is at
1000 Hz, and the IC 756 at PI4TUE is using 1500 Hz.
Just change the sweet spot to 1500 and enter frequency correction of -500 in
the pskmailrc.pl config file on the sever. Bingo!!

* Fldigi seems to sync much faster on the beginning of a frame.

* Under present conditions PSK125 just flies compared to PSK63. Good signal
quality on the 1200 km path to SM0RWO and the 20 km NVIS path to PI4TUE on 30
meters. Hardly any repeats necessary. Until now it looks like we can use PSK125
as the default mode, as there will a good channel to the server in most cases
through the band scanning function.

* The APRS frames need only 1/2 the time, so chance to get through is doubled.

* We need to be able to control the mode from pskmail, so a qrp station can
switch the server to PSK63 (3dB extra) or PSK31 (6dB).
Maybe we could designate 1 QRP (PSK63) channel in a scan of 5?

* The QPSK125 mode does not work, it looses the last few characters in a frame.

* I also tried DOMINOEX 22, but PSK125 blew it out of its socks...

* PSK125 will allow me to try an FEC scheme for severe QRN conditions (it
repairs 2 characters in 16-char block).

* More tests will be necessary, especially under bad conditions.

* I have not yet adjusted the ARQ timing to the new speed, so it is going to
get even better...

so far, this looks VERY PROMISING!!
