[pskmail] Building Server on Ubuntu - SSLeay Problem

SSLeay won't build right in cpan, as the instructions indicate might happen. I then follow the instructions and go into ~/.cpan/build/Net-SSLeay-1.32-xxxxxx (it's trying to install v1.32 not 1.30) and do a 'perl ./Makefile.PL' and make. Make errors out with: 


/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lz
Google isn't helping me out on this one. (I don't see a libz-anything in Synaptic that I might need) Any hints?
