I guess what we should do anyway is to make the waterfall fast/slow/off...
Some more test using "top" and Gnome Classic as desktop. With Gnome Classic and LXDE Compiz is not used, so there is a minor CPU usage for desktop management.
With Gnome Classic I get 70% of total CPU (50 user and 20 sys) when using new client and 50% (30 user and 20 sys) when using old client and Fldigi in "waterfall only"
So it appear as Compiz is the problem and with Compiz Java increment for waterfall process is critic. Removing Compiz Java increment is same but not so critic.
For now I will test this Gnome Classic solution. Regards Franco Spinelli IW2DHW
