Unless Dargorse is a location that I've forgotten about, I'd say
"dargorse buds".

It's a Backpack Item, though, so shouldn't it be capitalized?

Well, they aren't in your backpack currently, and you can't pick them
up, so it wouldn't be appropriate to mark it with initial capitals
which is supposed to mean they "may be of use" and that they "can be
picked up".

Has this been a general rule so far? That is, that once an item in your
backpack exits your backpack, it should no longer be capitalized? (The
Dargorse Buds are in your backpack until you tip them onto the floor in
either 141 or 292.)

It isn't just that the items are not in your Backpack; they are no longer in your possession at all. If memory serves, this /is/ a basic rule-of-thumb we have used in the past for whether an item should be capitalised, yes...but please don't ask me for an example! ;-)
