Hi trouble --
Ok, here are the results:
pinging 127.0.0.1 was successful.
pinging 192.168.1.1 (the router) succeeded.
pinging Mom's computer at 192.168.1.103 failed all 4 times due to timeouts.
However, she has the box on and is successfully exchanging email.
Any ideas? Thanks.

first see if your getting a ip, and then see how far that ip lets you
go. Ping 127.0.0.1 that will hit the adaptor card. Then ping the
router. If you get a 169 on your ip address then check to see if
adapter is enabled. sometimes it can do a half install like be pinged
and still not let you out.
Once you get from the computer through the router to the net with a
ping command. now its only settings that stop browsing. For that
leave firefox alone. it will adapted to IE once setup right. Go into
tools menu, Internet options, connection tab menu. Check the land
setting, nothing should be checked in there. now go ahead and re
setup the connection with setup wizard. then see if on the web. If on
web then check firefox.
