each case is one unto themselves, you could probably have lessened the cost a bit with either the self testing setup I ran down, or by taking your measurements, if you had ability to run the cable with ends in place, a bit more difficult I know, but doable and then have the students make and quick test the cables, smile
but obviously you got it done and seem satisfied so those are the main parts.
lol, you know what's bad, is when you know so much about cable work, that you wind up instructing the TWC cable installer who comes out to your house in how to install cable properly (even though its a different type of cable!) and how to use a cable staple gun inside the house correctly, *snort* sad world at such times!

not when you are custom installing in a home built before ethernet and don't really want someone in your house. measured runs, drilled holes in floors and now have rj45 access up and down stairs plus living room at an average of 18 to 24 cents per foot with wall junction blocks, plugs and boots and no worries about self crimped or crosswired errors.Bryan Schulz----- Original Message ----- From: "The Elf" <inthaneelf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, November 19, 2010 2:54 PM Subject: Re: making network cableslol, its actually cheaper ken's method elf Moderator, Blind Access Help Owner: Alacorn Computer Enterprises Specialists in customized computers and peripherals - own the might and majesty of a Alacorn! www.alacorncomputer.com proprietor, The Grab Bag, for blind computer users and programmers http://grabbag.alacorncomputer.com----- Original Message ----- From: "Bryan Schulz" <b.schulz@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 18, 2010 10:15 PM Subject: Re: making network cablesexactly or measure your runs and find a place on the net and custom order what you need.Bryan Schulz----- Original Message ----- From: "Ken Perry" <whistler@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, November 18, 2010 11:35 PM Subject: RE: making network cablesGood grief go to your local college with a box of wire the connectors and the tool sit outside a network class and then go in during lab. You can send a current through and when the circuit is complete, the beeper will go off. Now that doesn't solve your problem of matching upon the terminals, but it does help. Ifnot for a paid job site, who cares the color. They do make tools that beep when each end is the same.had to make network setups in college and it was a blast. There is noindependent way to figure out the wire colors. Some of the wires have a white stripe, so the blue wire is different from the blue-white wire. Once you get the wires in order and trimmed, it is possible to slip on the plug and crimp it, but a sighted person should look through the plugto check.
