I might also add that debian (as far as I know) doesn't come with speakup by default. 

Basically it's a less bloted version of ubuntu, past that I'm not sure.

debian has speakup, ubuntu has orica. You can install speakup on ubuntu, but 
by default debian doesn't install with gui unless you check it, where as
it's bundled with ubuntu.

Perhaps someone else on the list can explain the difference in the
packages.
For example, what would be one compelling reason to choose one flavor over 
another? is it just preference or functionality? Does one has better
speech
support than another? etc...!

the compiler errors: I'm using 2.5, and it says email v4 was distributed 
with 2.5... here's the error
