Jim,

I have a one word answer for you on that question:

Y! E! S!

the reasons will take more room, but if your willing to read them I think you will find my reasons compelling; 1. choice, as has been stated, the grouping on programming-LAW is different than here, and we tend to get a lot more of the "newbie's", the environment is different here and so is the level and type of help. 2. it prevents what happened to jfwlite from happening, Debbie died, and luckily her husband has been gracious enough to keep the site running "in her memory", but there are no, and I do mean no! updates being done to the page, so while its still a phenomenal resource, some of the stuff on it is getting dated, and one of these days many applications there will be good only to those folks who can't upgrade due to finances (please don't start that debate again!), and the rest of us will be back to trying to hunt down applications that will be accessible and work on vista and beyond on our own, instead of being able to find them on one resource site. and one of these days the good gentlemen may decide that he has maintained his wife's legacy long enough, and let it go, bad news for all those who make use of it. 3. all eggs in one basket syndrome; if you were to pass on suddenly as Debbie did, does anyone have the URL's and passwords needed to set up a new monitor, or will our list go the route of the jfwlite list (the other one based off of Debbie's site) with no one able to take it up and maintain it? if that happens, yes there is an alternative, but it would be a great loss to us, those who prefer this list, and if programming-LAW were to close in a similar fashion, then poof, a set of valuable resources would be gone, with a very few of us being able let alone willing to recover any of it, I know I don't even have all the addresses of everyone I have responded to, since that's several hundred people, and I do like to be able to navigate my address book in less than a hour. 4. I like this list, yes there are a few persons here that I find annoying, of course there are with out a doubt some here that find me annoying as well, and occasionally someone will show up that I outright can't stand, but over all, I love this list, I am known, and I know a lot of the folks out here, I am comfortable with them over all, and I know the type of help I will get out here. on another list I am not known, will not know so many of the people, and don't know the bloke/lass running the list, which, I although I do disagree with him at times, like the heap big head honcho of this list, smile. also, I'm somewhat known out here, which means my grab bag site is known for what it has, and that it is a resource, and although I wouldn't mind being known more widely by anyone on both lists referring folks to it, if I had to move lists, a resource would go into a temporary limbo, because most folks on the P-LAW list don't know me from a bum on a corner, so would be reluctant to go to my site unless there need for something I have there is really profound. 5. vast resources that are available from these lists; you have seen it as many times as I have my friend, cross posts to several or all the lists you run because it's fairly certain that some sort of answer will come off of one of them, even if it's not the "proper list" for that question. you've been great about letting them run a few replies if its not on topic for that list, and we appreciate it, or at least I do, and I'm sure that others do as well.

ok, I'll climb down from the podium for now and let someone else speak,
inthane
