Correct. The new technology is called EFI, or rather UEFI, to be more 
appropriate.

Actually, though I cannot remember where I read it, my understanding
is that they're beginning to manufacture desktops w/o bioses now. The
bios code had a far longer life than what was ever expected, & my
understanding is that they're working to phase it out.
