Using sodbeans with jaws 9

Hi all,
I will be working on a degree module come October using netbeans. Following
some advice given I have installed Sodbeans which is apparently netbeans with
the sappy stuff already installed. My ventures thus far have been limited.
When trying to open an existing file the dialog boxes do not seem very
accessible as the lists within them do not seem to give feedback.
I'm running Windows XP and Jaws 9.
Any ideas on how to get some feedback from the dialog boxes.
