This is correct, the JDK implicitly includes the JRE since you obviously want to run those programs you develop.

In fact I don't think you need to download and install the JRE since the JDK
also includes the JRE.
But I could be wrong here!
Java folks please correct me if I'm wrong here.

A text editor and the python interpreter.
For Java you need the JRE and SDK.
I recommend to use EdSharp as the text editor:
http://www.empowermentzone.com/edsetup.exe

I've heard that the Sun Java tutorial is good.
Do a google search for Sun Java tutorial and the chances are good it will be
the first in the list of search results.

Sure. Anyone should feel free to directly send me programming tutorials
for any language, and I will try to include them in the appropriate
archive. I have certain techniques for converting to good text, so if a
.chm, .doc, or .pdf file is available, send me that format and I'll do the
conversion to text.

With major contributions from Ishe Chinyoka, I have updated the
collection of Python text tutorials available in the archive at

http://EmpowermentZone.com/pyth_doc.zip

The archive now contains over 1000 tutorials. To focus on book-length
ones, sort the files by size and start with the largest.

I have also updated the Ruby tutorials, including Ruby 1.9 reference
material and the Book of Ruby, available at

http://EmpowermentZone.com/ruby_doc.zip
