But why convert in the first place? For instance, if I have some perfectly
readable and accessible PDF, why convert it to text when Adobe reader keeps
your place and notepad doesn't? I don't understand the reasoning behind blind
individuals wanting everything in text format. I don't. Given a word
document, keep a word document, given a PDF, keep it as a PDF.

Maybe. You can try having him use calibre to convert the books to a format that
isn't DRM protected, but if you don't' want to convert, for some strange reason
that I still don't' understand, then, not sure what to tell you.

Well it also helps that my friend happens to own an iPOD, and I don't, so he
was wondering for me if there was an accessible way to read those books on my
PC. That's what he was getting at.

I think he was saying he wants to read the book Sina not convert it. For
example the Braille+ opens them and reads them but doesn't convert them to any
other format.

You know, my friend was telling me about those types of books, and he was
wondering if there's a way to read them in their native format (for I prefer
keeping documents in their original format when possible), on a PC accessibly.
Is Edsharp's conversion feature there because there simply isn't a way since
Epub's an iPOD format? Or is it?

The EPub which the Calibre library supports is probably version 2.
Things are going to be quite different under EPub 3, which is slated to become
the distribution format endorsed by the Daisy Consortium some time next year.
