Re: Three questions about development environments

The big advantage of Android Studio (and eclipse although I'm not sure
the android plug ins for it are being updated anymore), the big
advantage is that it creates most of the package files for you
automatically, meaning you can spend more time concentrating on
editing the files that make your app do whatever it is your app does,
as otherwise there can be a lot of files to edit manually.

Hopefully Android Studio will become accessible as you say! It's
really quite bad form that it isn't already.

Hello Quentin,

Thank you very much for your help. Thankfully, I won't need android studio
until 2016 so hopefully it will become accessible but if not, it gives us
plenty of time to figure something else out. Best regards,

Eclipse was an existing IDE that yes there is an Android plug in for.
Eclipse is fairly accessible.

Android themselves are pushing people to use Android Studio which is a
new IDE developed specifically for writing Android apps.
Unfortunately it's not accessible at all at present. The options for
producing apps using a screen reader at present are either Eclipse, or
the more manual way of using a text editor such as Notepad++ (or any
text editor really), and building using the tools in the Java
Development Kit and using ADB to push and test on your device.

Hello Keith,
Thank you for your help. That is good to know. That would definitely make a
good backup if android studio is inaccessible. Best,

I think you may be right. I think that at one point there was an
Android Eclipse plugin though. Maybe the plugin can be a backup
solution if you find that Android Studio is totally inaccessible.

Good Luck,
Keith

Hello,

Thank you for letting me know about eclipse. From what I understand,
android
studio is not a plug-in for a clips but anybody please feel free to
correct

Eclipse works very well with JAWS. Is Android Studio just an Eclipse
plugin? I've never used BlueJ.

Hello all,

This is Jesse Tregarthen. I am starting a 2-year diploma course in
software
development this fall and I have been told ahead of time which
development
environments I will have to use for my Java programming class and I am
wondering if I could ask whether any of you know if these will work well
with JAWS. The class is using BlueJ during first semester but I was told
I
can use something else if that one doesn't work. In second semester,
however, I am required to use Eclipse in this class. Finally, I will
have
to
use Android studio in a new class they are teaching.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please let me know if any of
those will work and if not BlueJ, what would be a suitable alternative?
Best
regards,
Jesse Tregarthen
