Jamal, thanks for the info. I'll look it up and see about stopping in!…

As far as what I love about the Mac, a lot of it has to do with the OS in general, and well, my lil MacBook is just so darned chic / stylin' <smile> but four specific things that come to mind right away are these:

• SpotLight - extremely fast and intuitive.

I haven't tried the improved search feature in Vista, as I don't own it, but as I said, the SpotLight search util is very fast, incredibly fluid and has helped me out tremendously.

• Dashboard Widgets - AGain quick and easy.

I tend to use Google, Weather, Translation, Currency converter, and Dictionary. It's easy to move from one to another, and in many cases, customize the info each widget displays. <smile> I press F 12, they come up, I do what I need to, press it again, and they're gone! lol! -Very quick and easy.

• Easy access of address headers in Mail - By this, I mean, if I want to quickly send for example, a list member here, a note without having to copy / paste their addie from message headers, I can simply control click on their name or address in the header, and I'll have a menu of options for them, including sending them a new message, replying, adding to address book / calendar etc. I just find it much faster than I'd experienced it in windows XP with JFW / Eudora, and the client itself is very fast / stable.

• SEarch integration with Safari - For my work, I'm always on the web, and just like how simple and easy it is to search from the dashboard, in Safari or through SpotLight. All of the search / spellchecker capabilities etc are integrated very well with Safari without a lot of navigation. As in, I can bring up the Google widget, type something in, press enter, and the widget disappears and Safari comes up with the page. Then, if I want to continue searching, I can again use one key stroke, and go to Safari's search bar and already be in the edit field. I again type what I'm looking for, and press enter. I know this is possible on Windows, but I've personally found it much, much easier and quicker without any hassle on the Mac, in this OS. I can get what I need to get done, done, and then, be done with it! lol!

Anyway, I do hope this helps and I'm looking forward to coming by for a visit!…

Have a terrific day and catch ya on the flip!…

Smiles,

Cara :)

Hi Cara,
I do not recall the room location, but the time is 8 to 10 AM on the
Friday morning of CSUN. It is listed in the agenda.

What do you love about the Mac? Are there particular tasks you have
found easier or possible that were not so on Windows (or Linux)? These are the kinds of things that provide ideas for a list of possible tasks.
An idea can be rough at first and then refined between now and the
event.

Cheers,
Jamal

new list locale!

Anyway, I've switched over to Mac, and love love love it! I'd
really be interested in any more info you might have on the demo next
week??

Would be very interested in stopping by and checking it out. :)

anyway, do feel free to write me off list if you'd like.

to everyone else, hi again, and hope yer' all doing wonderfully!?

Have an awesome evening!?

I am moderating an event called Dueling Operating Systems at the CSUN
conference next week. Three users of an operating system and screen
reader
combination will compete for a couple hours: Windows with JAWS, the
Mac with VoiceOver, and Gnome/Unix with Orca.

We agreed to develop a long list of possible tasks that would each
take
from about 3 to 5 minutes using software that comes with the operating
system, except for JAWS and Microsoft Office. Either I or others I
enlist
would pick a selection of tasks from the list at the actual event.
Each task should be described in a general enough way so that
someone can
choose the application and screen reader techniques that achieve the
same
result.

If anyone has suggestions about possible tasks to include on the
list, I
welcome such input.
