hmmm, I have no clue on what is going on, I just used the link I gave you:
http://FruitBasket.QuantumMyst.com/

and then went down to the visual basic 2003 files (unfortunately no one has
made a newer one yet) and clicked on the "VB.net 2005 Fruit Basket Demo files"
link and got a download dialog, just as should happen.

try the above link and see what happens.

or here is a direct link for the zip file of VB examples
http://fruitbasket.quantummyst.com/downloads/VB_Net2005.zip

don't worry about the differences between 2005 and 2008, there not large enough
to throw off the intent of the fruit basket demo files, which is to allow folks
like yourself to view the source files and possibly an executable to see if a
language that blind programmers have, or are working with "works for you"

I don't think there is enough difference in the actual code to make a real
problem between 2005 and 2010, most of what I have herd about the newest VS
interface is that the interface changed, not that much about code and/or power
of the language changes.

Hi: I tried the bottom link and then clicked on Visual Basic.net. It seemed
to ask for a password, etc. Do I download a version of Visual Basic and
exactly how to do I go further?

smile there is a place just for you!

members of this and another list have slowly contributed for years to a
place called the fruit basket demo site. what the "fruit basket" is is an
simple application with just a few functions that is done in a number of
languages, so you can download a zipped version of them and take a look at the
coding and many times give the actual executable a try to see how it functions.

you can find the fruit basket demo page at:
    http://FruitBasket.QuantumMyst.com

this should help you find something that will make sense to you, and give
you a fair idea of what is available to you.

afterwards there are two main sights for blind programming still running,
one is my grab bag site (see URL under my name) and the other is non-visual
development.org, at:
    www.NonvisualDevelopment.org

      Hi:
I have 2 Certificates in COBOL computer programming that go back over 20
years ago. I realize that languages have changed but some or most of the logic
and structure remains the same.
I would like to get back into programming and do it from home. I am
legally blind and need recorded books but can take advantage of magnification.
I heard that BASIC is a good place to start but there is also Visual BASIC now,
etc. Do you know of a good place to begin and as efficiently as possible? I
have currently Windows XP .
