Hi JC,
Do you have browse mode turned off when this is going on?

JH:

Yup, that's what I do. I scroll the page with the up and down arrow keys.

Hi JC,
I'm unsure what you mean by scrolling, because when you talk about that, I
immediately think about scroll bars, which no screen reader user is able to
use. Any screen reader I have ever worked with: JAWS, NVDA, Window-eyes, have
all shown the entire table, and have had keys to navigate them. Window-eyes can
isolate on a single cell and navigate inside it as though it were a little
document unto itself, and keep you from accidentally navigating out of it. JAWS
can't do that, but it does show you the individual lines of a cell if you
navigate up and down with plain arrows.

I guess I will need to emphasise to my class that the scrolling is particular
to JFW.

Does anyone know if the other screen readers have a similar feature?

You may try:

1. Insert+F2, then choose Settings Center

2. Press control+Shift+D for default conf file.

3. Press tab and go in the tree view, then select:
web/html/pdfs
navigation
page layout.

4. Press space and turn on "page layout".

Maybe it is what you are looking for... I am not sure.

JH:

Nope, I'm looking for a way of creating a table and being able to read it as it
is displayed visually. It must not be dependent upon a particular device.

Hi JC,
Do you mean like read a whole row or column at a time from the table? If so,
check out these JAWS key strokes for HTML tables.

Read Next Row WINDOWS Key+ALT+DOWN ARROW Read Prior Row WINDOWS Key+ALT+UP
ARROW Read Current Row WINDOWS Key+COMMA Read from Beginning of Row to Current
Cell INSERT+SHIFT+HOME Read from Current Cell to End of Row INSERT+SHIFT+PAGE
UP Read Current Column WINDOWS Key+PERIOD Read from Top of Column to Current
Cell INSERT+SHIFT+END Read from Current Cell to Bottom of Column
INSERT+SHIFT+PAGE DOWN Read Next Column WINDOWS Key+ALT+RIGHT ARROW Read Prior
Column WINDOWS Key+ALT+LEFT ARROW

Subject: [program-java] HTML: Tables

HI:

Ok, perhaps I was dreaming or the Scotch over took my sensibilities but has
anyone ever come across a html table that Jaws reads out in a horizontal
fashion instead of the vertical?

E.G. When I'm scrolling the contents of a data table, I hear a single cell /
column at a time, is there a way of scrolling a table and hearing all the
columns in a row much like the way it really is displayed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jim
