Hi JC,
I read that part about device independence, but I was thinking visually. Too
much late night chess.

JH:

"It must not be dependent upon a particular device.", what part of that didn't
you read. <smile>

I'm setting up this course syllabus for the project I hinted at a month or so
ago. There is a JSP component and I'm dynamically building a table but was
hoping that via html I could force the screen reader to read the rows as I'm
scrolling.

I thought that I had come across something similar but I might have been
dreaming.

Hi JC,
JAWS can kind of half way do this. When you get your web browser open, use
Insert + V and then look for an item called Document Presentation. If it is set
to Simple Layout, switch it to the other option. Then, when you look at a
table, it will be sort of laid out a little like it might appear visually. If
you are fortunate enough to have a Braille display, you will see vertical bars
between the columns. Another thing you can attempt is to keep a document on
your computer that just has the top and bottom part of an HTML file with pretty
much an empty body, then, view the source of the file you are working on and
hack out the table. Then, dump that into your little HTML file, save the
result to your computer, view it in your web browser, use Insert + Z to turn
browse mode off, Use Control + A to select all, Control + C to copy to
clipboard, open Word, paste, and check out the result. If you use your JAWS
cursor, you will kind of get a feel for the visual aspect.

You can also see if you can turn off browse mode with Insert + Z in your web
browser and use your JAWS cursor to check out the table.
