In my case, I have a HP Business grade laptop. It is an NC6400. Granted it is a few years old now but in general is still a pretty hot system. I have the fingerprint scanner, have used it and it works and is pretty cool but probably in the realm of NQ (Not Required). It has a mouse joystick and touchpad, the touchpad is a pain in the ... well you get it. The joystick is something I have taught myself to use for some mouse operations and like pretty well. It has a Smartcard reader/writer, never used and in my opinion a waste of space and cost. It has a SD card reader/writer, very nice but make sure that it supports the HC and possibly the HX or XC, whatever they call them, cards. A PCMCIA slot, not as big a deal but if it doesn't have one of them make sure that you can read CF cards. I have an adapter from PCMCIA to CF for this purpose. USB ports, very useful. Make sure that you have all you can get. I saw a Toshiba laptop with a 500GB solid state drive in it, very cool. The laptop had everything solid state except the cd/dvd drive and the fans to cool things. The battery life was very nice, like 10-12 hours. The only disadvantage to this laptop was the cost, around $2,600 U.S. Everyone who saw it had to drool over it a lot and wanted to quietly put it in their pocket and take it away. <smile> Given a choice I'd never go back to just a desktop anymore. But, it is the more pricy way to go over all. J. R. -------------------- J. R. Ok, now that I've / we have established the docking station thing it's time to ask what kind of beasts are you all running. I'm interested in either Del or Toshiba machines that have tonnes of horsepower under the hood. Do's and Don'ts are most appreciated. Jim James M.
