Hi David, I tried your example using several different styles: it didn't work with default, simple and ikeda, but it works OK with fyma and sailor. I prefer them anyway :-). It seems to be a problem with installing packages in MikTeX rather than a powerdot problem, so I suggest raising the issue on the MikTeX mailing list.
