We do have to be careful since we ONLY count the number of species seen/heard.
A personal observation (based on very poor and selective memory) is that this
spring the number of species was not particularly low (memory only) but the
total number of birds within most of these species were quite low. Often only
1 of a species was seen compared with multiples seen in previous springs.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised that we got to 100+. It did not seem that
we would reach that level based on what I was seeing. For me, finding migrants
on the island this spring can only be likened to work – it was hard.
