You would have to write a plugin for the >filup stage, and use some sort of 
external program such as ImageMagick to convert the files to thumbnails. One 
relevant variable not mentioned in the plugin docs is $ph_upd, which will 
contain the filesystem path to the upload directory. 

This probably isn't much help, but perhaps you can find a programmer to do it 
for you - it shouldn't be too difficult. Unfortunately, I'm not able to do it 
at the moment.
