Re: [PCWorks] Faxes and email: Can you send a fax from a PC that uses DSL? (WAS: Converter/adapter from parallel printer port to USB port)

If you can find one.
I think you're mixing generations and architecture.
Didn't the dial-up modem era end way before USB came along? I don't recall
seeing anything but ISA dial-up modems.
If you come across one, then it may handle one problem: I don't recall ever
seeing a BSOD that resulted from a USB connection.

You CAN (sort of) send faxes with a DSL modem. You send it to some service
where it's forwarded to the fax machine. Let THEIR fingers do the dialing.

Also, I think some older AIO printers with faxes let you send your fax from
your computer file. I don't know whether the fax goes through the AIO
printer.

These printers are dirt cheap now (buy a box of Cheerios and get three
printers plus a rebate coupon that can be used only at Circuit City for a
75-baud acoustic coupler modem with a pulse-dialing phone).

So you'd have to have a **dial-up** (56k fax) modem, right?

If so, I guess I could always hook up one that's USB just to
fax then remove it.

You would send faxes the same way David does. All you need is a
fax
modem and a telephone line.
