     Did you CLOSE all running application except for explorer and systray?  
  Something's amiss here..... but at least you have succesfulyy downloaded the 
  critter.
     Another strategy might be to go into Add/Remove Prgrams and uninstall the 
  existing Macromedia Shockwave.  After that, then try to clean install the 
  download you just did.
