Trillian allows you to create seperate profiles. So, when you run Trillian, it
asks for which profile you want to sign into. The profiles are not mandatory,
but an option if you have more than one person. Same thing as MSN, AIM, or the
others. When you run it, it says who would you like to login as.
Now... I need to check... but I honestly don't remember if the free version
does the profiles as well. Will check and report.

do you know - I have winxp - and we have - my son, daughter, and I all have
different AIM logins under our own screen names. What happens with trillian in
a situation like this?

Trillian is just a client to access all the other services. You are not
signing up for a screen name on Trillian. The way it works is you tell Trillian
you want to connect to the, for example, Yahoo Instant Messenger network, and
then you enter the screen name you use for Yahoo. If you don't have one, you
can create one. What I did when I started using Trillian way-back-when, I went
to all the networks and created a screen name on all of them. The only one I
already had was ICQ. But, I created one for all the others. I know you say you
don't want to sign up to anything, but you can give bogus info on all of them.
That's what I did. Even ICQ doesn't have my correct info, and I've been using
ICQ from almost the very beginning. Also... with Trillian, if there's an IRC
room you frequent often, you can also use it to go onto IRC. You should really
give it a try. Get the free version, and if you like it you get the Pro
version, which has afew more extra features, which aren't real
ly necessary but are nice. And, the cost is only $25.

One more question Dave, do you create your own screen name, or have to
have one from one of the sources. What I'm trying hard to do is stay
absolutely AWAY from signing up to anything from MSN, AOL, etc.
Occasionally, it might be nice to have to talk to the other mods here,
etc. I have this machine soooooo nice now, I don't want to screw it
up with a security risk, etc.
BTW, I almost bought a dream machine last night.

    Dell
    3.2 Mhz
    2 gig RAM
    (2) 120 G HDs
    RAID 0
    Audigy soundcard, etc.

I saw it late last night and by the time I talked to my wife and
decided to buy it.......it was gone :-[
