It is a Dell monitor and about five years old.  I have been googling the

It needs to be taken apart to check the backlight.  Squeezing the sides may
have made the contact at one end of one of the backlight lamps improve.
Only a monitor specialist would be able to answer any more detailed
questions than that.  If the monitor is still under waranty, get in touch
with the maker and request an RA (return authorization) so they can test it
for you.  If it's defective, it will likely be replaced without charge.  If
it's no longer under waranty, you can use their web site to find the
authorized repair place nearest you.
