I have updated AVG to version 8 free. It is still available for free and it
does scan for virus and for spyware. It asks to be updated (new
definitions) almost daily but this does not take long. I hope it is doing
it's
job. I have never had a lot of trouble with virus but I have always caught
some spyware in the past. So far AVG has not caught any spyware. Spybot
Search and Destroy always catches something.
