I am not freaking out over what they are ADMITTING they have now...but, I am
freaking out over what so many will see as a wonderful potential.

And with a name like NightSneak... you will not be able to be one! lol!
They will know all your procelvities.

Also, I did not see an answer.... how do they know what happened 5 seconds
before an incident..if they are not recording all the time? Sure..it only
has a 10 second memory....? right..and it does not transmit..... ??? Now?

As the article pointed out....the information gathered could in the future
be sold to insurance companies, etc. It may be well past 1985..but '1985' is
catching up to us!

So, if we do not freak out now..and accept this as some innocuous or even
potentially helpful data collector, we will be way too late to stop a whole
industry.

One of the things we spoke a lot about in state's dept of data processing
was knowledge (data) being power and whoever controlled the knowledge (data)
was powerful and would control a large marketshare of all business.

That is why there have been such battles with cable companies and telephone
companies and all telecommunications. Whether it was the old microwaves or
the newer sattelite media carrying the signal..they are powerful. Making
software proprietary would help control data to some extent, but those who
offered more flexibility, estensibly for less or even free in the
beginning..would be the big winners in the end.

Putting these devices in the car... 'for your own good' saftely and studies,
ostensibly sounds good... but, let's be real. For every piece of freebie
given away..it is a seed planted to reap acres later.

So, I prefer to freak out now...before this is all in place..and' oh what is
the big deal?' becomes the conversation..and do you know how much it would
cost to remove these..and the cost of the car would go up because this info
is sold to vendors (insurance companies, restaurants, banks, credit card,
life insurance, etc) to keep the cost of the car down... and now..this
revenue will have to come from the car..and therefore..from the
buyers........

And if you think I am wrong...... (and I pray I am) keep this thread of
emails..and leave them to your kids/ grandkids to read. Of course...they
will probably not understand it all since they will have very little privacy
left in their lives anyway....

And no, while it does not identify the driver YET..... how long before we
have to insert a valid driver's license before the car starts? Well, they
need that to verify you have insurance... and if in an accident...then the
hospital can get your medical records... always some well meaning helpful
thought.. and someone else making money..selling my info.......and my
benefit.... well, in this scenerio..if I never have to go to the hospital
because of a car accident.. NO benefit to me! I have made it 58 yrs so
far...(thank you God!)

Ok.. I promise.. I will stay off the soap box now...if anyone wants to
discuss this further privately I will be happy to..but I do not want to bore
the rest of the list with my rantings....lol!

Hugs,
Rose

Night,

Even then- the box does not identify the driver at the wheel, correct? Just
what the car was doing at moment of impact? That is the part that kinda
scared me- I could just see an officer itching to walk up to a car that fit
a certain description and ask to see the black box because witness said the
car was going ten miles over the speed limit. Perhaps my son drove it, and
he was careless enough to allow a friend to drive it, and the friend went
92 down a street. (Let's assume no accident for the question.)

You are saying the black boxes will not reveal to an officer or dealership
that 42 hours ago the car was going 92, correct? I may be the owner of the
car, but in this case I would not be aware of the car being driven at that
speed. Of course, if I ever found out, he would never drive again for as
long as I could enforce that.
