Do you know if there is a way to find where this is located..and if it can
be removed or disabled?

I would tremendously resent the car manufacturer being able to sell data as
to where I go and what I do..(as a consumer..I am not even talking about
personal info.. some stalker of a movie star...etc..) so I can be targeted
for even more spam. Then they can say..hey! You cannot opt out as you
were at my casino last week..or some other BS. Who needs to know how often
I go to a movie, a bar, grocery stores, casinos, restaurants, drug stores,
doctors, hospitals, etc.

Who gave car manufacturer's the right to put a device on my car..without
advising me or paying me to gather statistics for anyone. My insurance
company has no right to know where I go. If I get in an accident, then we
can talk..as we have. Do not make me PROVE I am telling the truth by
allowing someone to document my every move in a vehicle "I" own. That I am
not paid for it is even an after thought. You cannot pay me enough to
violate my right to privacy. I have NEVER been convicted (or even charged
with any crime - with the exception of one speeding ticket (and a few
wasting energy tickets) in my LIFE!)
Ok...ok.... I am now stopping my ranting..and I do not mean to kill the
messenger...

I just need to know HOW to proceed with this.. This does upset me. Makes be
want to spend more to buy an older car...how dumb!

Billy,

These have actually been installed in GM or Saturn US cars since 1996 and
are mostly used for accident reconstruction.

They are called Black Boxes for cars. While privacy advocates see all kinds
of smoke and mirrors, which may very well be true eventually, they actually
have a usefulness in accidents, etc., just like in airplanes. For a wide
range of ideas and information concerning them, do a google search on "black
box" +car

A good site on explanations is:
