If this is for the PC running WinXP with 2.5 GB of memory, then I would suggest you NOT put any more in. The 32-bit version of WinXP has problems with anything above 3 GB. If you are asking about another PC, then that is not an easy question to answer. Some PC's are pretty flexible as far as the speeds and brands you use, but many (especially newer high speed PC's) are getting more and more picky. You should have much less problems if you stay with the same brand and speed, but that's not even guaranteed. Many motherboards have a list of memory sticks that are tested to work properly. Many others will work, but just aren't tested by manufacturer. If that is too confusing, then I would recommend you find out what is recommended from either the motherboard maker or PC maker. Some of the bigger memory sellers could probably help also. -----Original Message----- From: pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:pctechtalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of cristy Sent: Monday, December 01, 2008 10:41 PM To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- memory question When I am buying new memory, does the "brand name" have to match what is in there or only the right speed and all? thanks, christy --------------------------------------------------------------- Please remember to trim your replies (including this sentence and everything below it) and adjust the subject line as necessary.
