We'll do this step-by-step.

On each computer, you need to go to START > right-click MY COMPUTER and select
PROPERTIES, click the COMPUTER NAME tab. On the bottom, where it says TO RENAME
THIS COMPUTER OR JOIN A DOMAIN, CLICK CHANGE. go ahead and click the CHANGE
button.

The next screen will have two key things you need to look at. There is COMPUTER
NAME located at the top, and there is WORKGROUP located at the bottom. EACH
computer on the network has to be on the SAME workgroup. So, on each computer,
check these settings and make sure they are all the same group name. By
default, I believe the workgroup name is actually called WORKGROUP. That's fine
and you can leave that.

Now. on the COMPUTER NAME. each computer has to have a unique and DIFFERENT
name. Make sure that's the case here. Assuming changes were made, you need to
restart BOTH computers.

Also. did you say you have Windows HOME? Or Windows Pro?

I have to run out this morning, so I'll send you the information later today.

The dell is currently not turned on. It has printed before. I don't know if my
son ever set his computer up to print - I'll have to ask him that.

we have a linkseys router. It is now wired to the main computer, but wireless
to my laptop. There are wires running to some rooms that couldn't pick up the
signal, but there aren't any computer's on those. It is possible that my son
wired his computer to the network. He set up some sort of contraption with
wires everywhere - to his computer 2 weeks ago. Some sort of netgear gizmo. For
all I know, he disconnected my main computer! you never know about him!

I've gotta run right now.

thanks!

The next step is to make sure everything is on the network. You said your son
has this set up on other computers. When I read that, I thought you meant on
that set up you have there. But, now since you cannot open the Microsoft
Windows Network I'm starting to wonder otherwise. So, let's just get a few
facts out of the way. When you said your son had this working, was it on these
computers? Or other computers?

How many total computers on this network? You do have a router, correct? You
are currently sharing an internet connection, correct? Its not necessary, but
if you can give me the 'name' of each computer it would be easier to speak in
context.

After I get these answers I can continue through further.
