I got it and listened very briefly. It is definitely a monophonic
recording, but it sounds like there's some tape stretching going on (slight
variances in speed/pitch). This could be blamed on age, but it's just as
likely that the tape is sticking a little as it runs through the transport.
So, perhaps I should cover the prep that needs to be involved in this sort
of project.

The first thing is to make absolutely sure that the cassette player is as
clean as it can be. This means running a head, pinch roller and capstan
cleaner through it at least once per side (when some cleaners are flipped,
they attack different parts of the mechanism. these will be run through
twice per side). the cleaner should be of the wet variety so it can soften
and dislodge any old magnetic particles from the tape path. Once cleaned,
let the player sit with the door open for a couple of minutes to allow the
alcohol to fully evaporate before inserting a cassette. For optimal
results, cleaning should be performed about every 12-15 hours of actual
playing time.

Next, consider using a demagnetizer on the player to scramble any stray
magnetism from the metal parts in the tape's path, especially the
play/record head. This will help ensure that you're not erasing the tape
slightly each time you play it. Demagnetize the head about once a week, if
you're using the player often.

Peace,
G
