I have Earthlink..sometimes it takes reinstalling the program to stop stuff like that. OR if it is a fairly recent problem, a system restore.. AND you might check to see what version of E. you have. There is a newer one out just recently. Might make a difference. You can kill them all at once, or one at a time, and the program will automatically protect system- critical processes from being killed. I believe it was designed to run on Win9x, but it seems to work fine on XP/2000. It's a very handy program to run before a defrag, or if you want no interruptions from other programs while burning an important CD or DVD. The problem in your case will be finding out which process or program is barring you from shutting down the connection, and unless another Earthlink user chimes in, I'm afraid you'll have to find that out on your own, by closing each item individually.
